I saw that a new version of PHP 5.3 had been released, so I've upgraded the system to run it. Everything seems to be working smoothly after the upgrade.

Now running Slackware 13.37!

I finally got around to upgrading to Slackware 13.37 about a week ago. This includes kernel 2.6.37.6, Apache 2.2.19, PHP 5.3.6, Perl 5.12.3, and MySQL 5.1.56.
The upgrade did not appear to cause any problems, although I found an old problem with the Samba configuration that was causing it not to share symlinked folders on a separate physical drive. I was able to fix this by adding the "wide links = yes" feature in smb.conf, and everything seems to be working now.

After updating the httpd and PHP software on the server, I discovered that mod_perl was out of date, so I have updated that as well. Everything seems to be working correctly after the upgrade.

It had been a while since I had updated the site software. I finally got around to doing that, and everything appears to be in working order. I will probably get around to updating to PHP 5.3 eventually, as I've heard that it is now stable enough to run in production.

Another tweak after upgrading to Slackware 13.1

I just discovered that not only was ddclient broken by the Slackware 13.1 upgrade, but since MySQL had been upgraded from 5.0.84 to 5.1.46 during the upgrade, this meant that some update scripts needed to be run for the data dictionary, since I had in effect upgraded from 5.0 to 5.1. Running mysql_upgrade, followed by a few REPAIR TABLE commands, rectified this particular problem.
I then noticed that something else was broken after the upgrade to Slackware 13.1. Before, I hadn't realized that the new script to start mysqld in /etc/rc.d was now preventing me from connecting to they MySQL server from other hosts on the network, since I hadn't even tried to connect to them from another host. Commenting out the SKIP=--skip-networking line in the rc script fixed this problem.
As much as I like Linux, there are just so many things that can go wrong after an upgrade that you might not catch right away. These issues I have mentioned are a couple of examples of those things that can go wrong. But all of this keeps me on my toes, I guess.

Router swap-out

I replaced the old Linksys WRVS4400N with a new Netgear WNDR3700, as the wireless signal on the older router had become unreliable. After I spent a little bit of time configuring the new router, the network is once again working as before, and with a more reliable wireless signal.
In the process, I discovered that ddclient was no longer working, as the IO::Socket::SSL module had to be upgraded to work with Perl 5.10.1 (which itself had been upgraded from 5.10.0 during the Slackware 13.1 upgrade). So I installed the new module, and ddclient is working once again.

I installed Slackware 13.1 with Linux kernel 2.6.33.4 the other day. I had to recompile PHP and Apache and also fix some init scripts and some configurations in /etc to get everything up again, but all seems to be running well now.
