At the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Commissary Agency, served as lead database administrator. Reviewed data models, performed performance tuning of existing applications. Performed military-grade system hardening at the OS and database levels. Managed encryption of sensitive data both at rest (using the Protegrity ESA) and over the wire.
At W. W. Grainger, Inc., served as technical lead during the development of a new data warehouse subject area prototype.

Provided technical consultation to Teradata partners in various industries. Created and presented technical training sessions to familiarize partners with Teradata features including indexes (primary / secondary / join / PPI / MLPPI), Teradata Utilities, Viewpoint, DBQL, new database features, and more. Reviewed partner data models in ERwin and assisted in the conversion of logical data models to physical data models. Worked directly with partners at the Teradata Partner Benchmark Center to configure their software for Teradata, capture and analyze benchmark results, and tune partner's SQL and data models for optimized Teradata performance based on benchmark results. Managed technical issues encountered by partners and drove issues to resolution. Supported partners included financial application software, healthcare database applications, ETL utilities, middleware packages, and enterprise operations software.

Led the migration of the Charles Schwab Asset Management data mart and Fixed Income data mart from Oracle to Teradata. Worked with database administrators to determine indexes, statistics, and partitioning to add to tables in the data warehouse, in order to improve performance for end-users. Used PMON and Explain facility to tune existing Teradata processes to optimize for performance. Created presentations and led training sessions to introduce new users to Teradata. Designed data feeds to load Teradata tables from Oracle tables or from flat files, using Fastload, Multiload, and SQLPlus. Designed physical data mart schema optimized for Teradata. Redesigned Oracle cursor-based stored procedures to Teradata set-based stored procedures. Worked with Business Objects developers to ensure that generated SQL was optimized for Teradata.

At Safeway, Inc., implemented the industry's first "Active Data Warehouse" system on Teradata, designing a series of Fastload and BTEQ scripts to read data from an MQ Series message queue and load store transactions to the data warehouse in near real-time. Managed 12 Safeway employees and contractors in the Vendor Cost Analysis project, enabling profitability and margin analysis by UPC/store/date. Designed and programmed the Synchronization component of the Teradata Dual Active Facility, enabling the mirroring of tables across multiple Teradata systems for purposes of load balancing, redundancy, and disaster recovery.
At Albertson's, Inc., designed and implemented the Base Cost application area to enable profitability and margin analysis applications by UPC/store/date on the data warehouse.
At Warner Home Video, designed and implemented an application to recommend an optimized mix of home video titles by format for each store for various retailers based on historical and projected sales in order to maximize future sales.
At GAP Inc., modified the physical design of the Teradata schema supporting the Market Basket Analysis application. Improved report performance by a factor of 100+, causing reports which had required hours of system time for processing to complete in minutes.
